Who are School Psychologists?
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community (National Association of School Psychologists, 2021).
What is your involvement at McCutcheon Elementary?
I provide direct support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselor, school social workers) to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services. I conduct full and individualized evaluations for students suspected of requiring diverse learner supports and services (special education).

Tell me a little bit more about yourself!
This is my 13th year at McCutcheon Elemantary and my 17th year working for the Chicago Board of Education. I received my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and my Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degrees in School Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. I have spent my entire career working for Chicago Public Schools and spent many years working as a Lead Psychologist for the district. I am currently the Lead Coach for the Anger Coping Implementation Project in which I train CPS Counselors, Social Workers, and School Psychologists how to implement the Tier 2 Social-Emotional Learning curriculum, Anger Coping. I grew up in Wisconsin and have two children who both attend a CPS elementary school (3rd grade and Kindergarten!). I love to travel, garden, and cook/bake. Lastly, I root for the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers!
