Principal Message
Greetings McCutcheon Community!
It is truly an honor and privilege to become a part of the John T. McCutcheon STEAM Community. McCutcheon is a unique place and I look forward to our journey together.
I come to you, as a wife, and a mother of three, my oldest son is in banking, my daughter attends the University of Notre Dame, and my youngest son is a 5th-grade student in Chicago Public Schools. I have 27 years of experience as a primary teacher leader, instructional coach, assistant principal, and now your principal. I spent 18 years as a Kindergarten – 3rd-grade teacher and instructional coach and the past 8 years as assistant principal. I have had the privilege of serving diverse communities on the south and west sides of Chicago and now I am able to serve the Uptown community.
I have a strong philosophical belief that all students deserve a safe, equitable, rigorous, and culturally relevant learning experience, infused with social-emotional support in all subject areas. Education has been a major pillar in my life and has driven me to advocate for students who have been traditionally underrepresented and underserved.
I believe in the unique partnerships and bonds that are developed through building strong and trusting relationships. My plan is to work closely with all stakeholders, LSC, school staff, students, and parents to continue to build on the great legacy of McCutcheon STEAM School. My conversations with staff, students, and district leadership have brought great insight into the core beliefs and values that have made McCutcheon into what it is today. I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and actively support teachers’ practice.
I am a hands-on leader and I will continue to immerse myself into the McCutcheon community in order to ensure that students and staff are successful-because we are bound for greatness!
In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I welcome your conversation and input. Let us always keep our students as the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes in the years to come.
Sincerely,
Kahinde Lynn Longmire, Principal
